I was so close to buying a Yamaha TRBX-174 when I saw this kit. I have also wanted to build a guitar….so the two birds thing with one stone took over.
The kit came packed well, with all the bits you need to build the guitar….need a screwdriver, some stain and some finish, soldering iron.
Awesome kit. Build one. 🙂

I have now built two of this kit. One for myself, and another for my daughter. I seriously have enjoyed the journey from buying, through building to playing. The support on the forum is awesome, and Richard is great to deal with. One of the most enjoyable, painless internet based transactions I have ever completed…..and the end result is that I now play music in my own home.
This site is a great resource, the end products sound awesome and help you find that inner woodworking muso you have buried for so many years. Don’t wait until you are my age….yes over 50…..do it NOOOOOOOW.
I will be back for more….and may have to buy a bigger house to hold them all. 🙂

I have been playing one of these Basses right here for the past two days. I have built four guitars now, and own one factory made bass guitar. I first picked up a musical instrument on 28 January 2014, and I am presently 51.
I use software to try and learn….game really….and I am loving the experience. Rocksmith 2014 has taken me places I did not think I could go.
I have a bass finished in Tru-Oil and the protected with a few coats of wax….nothing else.
I have a bass finished in wipe-on poly and wax.
I have a factory bass finished in some sort of spray painted coating….that I have polished and coated in wax.
I am trying to get a kit from somewhere else to actually fit together and be able to be played. This one I have taken the opportunity to sand back to bare wood and start again. It is presently at six coats of Tru-oil and counting.
My view, that Tru-oil over stained wood gives an awesome looking, feeling….and right now….most importantly….PLAYING finish. The sustain on my first build is ridiculous. The tone from the standard pick-ups that came with the kit is so full of grunt and groan at all sorts of volumes….and some wicked tones in Rocksmith and on my Yamaha THR10 amp….try these out….awesome little power boxes.
Wow….this is a bass I built from a kit. Yet it is my preferred weapon of bass destruction. It has a few little dents and dings now as the Tru-oil and wax finish is not hard….just protective and wonderful on the grain of the wood.
I even download the first Rocksmith program to filtch some more songs to play….and it gives you criticism…both good and bad….as you play the songs….with little notes popping up on the screen as you play. I get so many “Ridiculous sustain”….”Awesome sustain” etc. The tone from this kit…..the smooth playability of the neck is still amazing me as I learn each day.
May have to try a precision bass copy from you Richard….xmas pressie for me…..saving now.
Thanks for the guys who led my trail of construction….this building your own and getting such a beautiful finish and awesome sounds from your own efforts makes me smile even when I just think about it. Music is so powerful and these kits bring the power to everyone.
Still loving it.
